How to Find Remote Jobs That Hire International Workers
Remote work has really helped the workforce and made it possible for people to work with employers from all around the world. But some of these jobs are still only meant for people from certain countries. Here’s how to find jobs that are open to international workers.
Understand what remote actually means
Having a remote job doesn’t mean you can work from any where you want. There are companies that offer remote jobs in America, Europe, Asia, specific time zones and even worldwide. The word remote just tells you where you can work from not who they can employ.
Search for worldwide remote jobs:
When searching for remote jobs don’t just search “remote jobs” search “international remote jobs”. If you don’t do that it will just end up giving you many remote jobs for people working under a particular geographical area.
Use remote focused job boards
Try to focus on remote specialized job boards so they can give you a broad insight on international hiring. We work remotely is one of the the well known remote work platforms that also has a variety of jobs in different fields, there are others like remote OK, remote.co, working nomads etc. Remember to check the location on each job offer.
Search company career pages
You don’t always have to search job boards when looking for remote jobs, some companies advertise jobs on their career pages. Information on company career pages are more accurate than those on job boards.
Check if your country is eligible
This is a very important step. Look for the location, requirements, eligibility and work authorization before applying. You may see terms like remote-worldwide, remote – America or EMEA and APAC. These tell you the geographic area they are hiring from.
Look your companies that hire through international employment systems
Companies have different ways of hiring in different countries. Some of them use Employer of Record and some use international contractors. This is so an organization can hire workers in a country where they don’t have any formal local office.
Search by skill not just online job
Do not search for just any online job, search for the type of service you can provide. Combine the skills you have with the type of job you are looking for.
Make your CV international
International employers may not be familiar with the local terminologies in your country. Focus on putting down your skills, achievements and results, make the description easy so people from all around the world can understand.
Create an online portfolio
Having a portfolio can make your international application stronger cause it gives your employers real life examples not just believing what is written on your CV. Your portfolio varies depending on your profession. This should be recommended for jobs that have to deal with more of practical work.
Consider different time zones
Having an international remote work means you can work from wherever you want but not whenever you want. A company may need you to work within the time zone of their headquarters. Different companies have different work schedules and once you are employed you have to follow these schedules. But these requirements will be in the job description.
Build a professional online presence
Most recruiters will go forward to search for you after going through your application. Make sure you put down what you do, what you are good at and what type of job you are looking for. Make sure your profile is consistent with your CV.
Don’t apply to every job you find
There is usually alot of traffic when applying for international jobs. Instead of just applying for alot of jobs just focus on the type of position and the requirements that match your skill, if the time zone is convenient for you, your experience and what the company does. Having a well targeted application is better than just sending your CV to any employer.
