Role Overview

The Assistant Underwriting Manager will assess risks, determine pricing and set policy terms within established underwriting and service standards. The role supports sound risk selection, timely service delivery and operational excellence, while helping develop and review products to meet changing market needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure accepted risks meet underwriting guidelines and fall within the reinsurance programme.

  • Provide technical support to staff on rating and underwriting complex risks.

  • Support business onboarding, documentation, risk surveys, valuations, policy issuance, certificate management, cancellations and refunds.

  • Assist with reviewing the underwriting manual and improving underwriting processes.

  • Contribute to product development, business innovation and the ongoing review of existing products.

  • Support product reviews, risk pricing and quotation preparation.

  • Resolve day-to-day operational enquiries within agreed turnaround times to maintain efficient service and a positive customer experience.

  • Help review underwriting systems, processes and standard operating procedures in response to changing business needs and emerging control risks.

  • Prepare and submit monthly underwriting returns to the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA).

  • Record and update compliance risks, events, indicators and actions in the risk-management system.

  • Audit and monitor compliance with underwriting guidelines, documentation requirements, delegated authority limits, data-completeness standards, risk cessions and filed and reinsurance rates.

  • Enforce full compliance with applicable underwriting requirements.

  • Review and approve policy schedules and related documents.

  • Identify gaps in process and product knowledge and organise relevant training.

  • Coach and mentor staff on underwriting guidelines, operating procedures and technical product knowledge.


Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science or a business-related discipline.

  • An ACII or IIK professional qualification, or good progress towards one.

  • At least five years of experience in insurance.

  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting and general insurance products.

Role Overview

The Customer Service Officer will provide front-line support to Retail Life and Pensions customers, responding to enquiries, resolving concerns and guiding clients throughout the policy lifecycle. The position supports policyholders, intermediaries and internal teams, with a focus on customer satisfaction and business retention.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for walk-in customers and telephone and email enquiries from policyholders and intermediaries, including requests received through the client-service mailbox.

  • Respond accurately and promptly to enquiries about policy status, premiums, beneficiary changes and product information.

  • Coordinate with underwriting, claims and policy-maintenance teams to resolve issues and follow through on customer requests.

  • Introduce customers to self-service tools and support their use of digital platforms.

  • Record, escalate and follow up on complaints in accordance with the complaints-management framework.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Two to three years of customer service experience in insurance or financial services.

  • Knowledge of life insurance products, administration systems and policy-management processes.

  • Proficiency in CRM tools and Microsoft Office applications.
