1. Manager, Mineral Exploration

Job field: Oil and Gas, Energy and Mining
Experience: At least 10 years, including five years in management


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage field-based mineral exploration programmes.

  • Review research proposals and reports on geological investigations and mineral exploration.

  • Assess the performance of geological contractors and consultants.

  • Design and oversee exploratory drilling to obtain subsurface rock cores for sampling and analysis.

  • Support three-dimensional ore-body modelling to estimate mineral grades and tonnage.

  • Conduct studies to assess the commercial viability of mineral prospects and identify opportunities for growth.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment.

  • Provide overall leadership for the Division and support staff development through training, coaching and mentorship.

  • Develop mine growth strategies and evaluate operational performance and productivity.

  • Carry out other responsibilities assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.


Qualifications and Experience

  • A master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology, Engineering Geology, Earth Sciences or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

  • A bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

  • At least 10 years of work experience, including a minimum of five years in a management role.

  • Completion of a management or leadership course lasting at least four weeks at a recognised institution.

  • Registration with the Geologists' Registration Board (GRB) and good professional standing.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.

  • Fulfilment of the Chapter Six requirements of the Constitution, as specified in the notice.


2. Geologist

Job field: Oil and Gas, Energy and Mining


Role Overview

The Geologist will support the Division's long-term planning and the preparation, verification and implementation of exploration activities. The role includes detailed geochemical exploration, trenching and rock-chip sampling to identify mineral anomalies, as well as interpreting mineral resource development policies. It also involves exploratory drilling, core analysis and three-dimensional ore-body modelling to estimate grades and tonnage.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field exploration to identify rocks and mineral deposits with economic potential.

  • Identify suitable drilling sites and supervise the implementation of drilling plans, including core logging and sampling.

  • Carry out geological site investigations.

  • Produce and interpret prospect-level lithological, structural and mineral resource maps, together with cross-section seismic profiles.

  • Generate additional geological, geochemical and geophysical data.

  • Analyse and evaluate results after drilling.

  • Undertake chemical, mineralogical and microscopic examinations of exploration samples.

  • Compile, interpret and present exploration data for use in planning and decision-making.


Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Geology, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Engineering Geology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

  • Registration with the Geologists' Registration Board (GRB) and good professional standing.

  • Completion of a supervisory course lasting at least two weeks at a recognised institution.


3. Mining Engineer

Job field: Oil and Gas, Energy and Mining

Role Overview

The Mining Engineer will prepare and implement mine designs, production schedules, waste-rock management plans and land reclamation plans. The role also covers mineral rights documentation, stockpile management, geotechnical reporting and compliance with mining environmental, safety and health requirements.

Additional duties include designing mineral processing plants, supervising their installation, implementing processing-waste management plans, managing mineral product stockpiles, and supervising and reporting on metallurgical tests.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare mineral rights applications and periodic performance reports.

  • Develop and implement mine plans and production schedules.

  • Prepare reports and operational instructions for geotechnical activities.

  • Develop and implement waste-rock management plans.

  • Manage run-of-mine stockpiles.

  • Implement safety, environmental and health regulations across mining operations.

Qualification

  • A bachelor's degree in Mining, Mineral Processing, Extractive Metallurgy or Civil Engineering.


4. Office Administrator

Job field: Administration and Facilities

Role Overview

The Office Administrator will coordinate administrative services and provide direction on secretarial and logistical support to ensure that office activities run smoothly and support the Board's mandate.


Key Responsibilities

  • Handle correspondence, receive visitors and clients, and respond to telephone calls and enquiries.

  • Schedule appointments and maintain office diaries and itineraries.

  • Monitor procedures for recording and storing correspondence.

  • Record and compile customer complaints received by the office.

  • Safeguard office equipment, documents and departmental records.

  • Draft, receive, sort and distribute correspondence, reports, circulars and publications as required.

  • Maintain appropriate office protocol and professional etiquette.

  • Manage office petty cash and consumable supplies.


Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Secretarial Management, Business and Office Management, Business Administration or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.


5. Assistant Office Administrator

Job field: Administration and Facilities

Role Overview

The Assistant Office Administrator will provide secretarial support to the Board and assist with the smooth running of departmental activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and assist visitors and clients.

  • Respond to telephone calls, customer enquiries and complaints.

  • Safeguard office records, equipment and documents.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of office information and data.

  • Observe office protocol and professional etiquette.

  • Support the general administration of the assigned office.

  • Manage office petty cash and take responsibility for assigned physical assets, including safes, furniture and office equipment.

  • Make operational decisions within the scope of the role.

The position is based at the Board's headquarters, with occasional field assignments.


Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of C−.

  • Passes in the following subjects offered by the Kenya National Examinations Council:

    • Typewriting II at 40 words per minute, or Computerised Document Processing III.

    • Business English II.

    • Commerce II.

    • Office Management II, or Office Administration and Management III.

    • Secretarial Duties II.

    • Office Practice II.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.
