Job Description

The British Council is recruiting experienced finance professionals for three senior opportunities within its Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) function. The roles cover strategic finance business partnering, global FP&A process optimisation and the leadership of a central finance support function.

Director of FP&A CoE

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the global finance business partnering team supporting the Cultural Engagement portfolio.
  • Provide strategic financial advice and business decision support to senior stakeholders.
  • Oversee financial planning, forecasting, reporting and analysis across the portfolio.
  • Support financial oversight of grant-funded programmes and ensure funds are aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Work with Corporate Finance to maintain strategic alignment, governance and compliance.
  • Drive improvements in financial planning capability and reporting processes.
  • Support the adoption of new financial planning tools and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Strengthen business partnering capabilities across the organisation.
  • Provide financial insights across a complex portfolio covering arts, education, English programmes, research and commercial activities.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in financial management, FP&A, management accounting or grant finance.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting complex programmes or portfolios, ideally involving funded work.
  • Experience partnering with senior business stakeholders at Executive or Board level.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders in a matrix or multi-country organisation.
  • Experience leading and developing global teams of 10 or more staff.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering finance process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Strong financial modelling, forecasting and analytical skills.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP platforms is desirable.
  • Experience with Anaplan or similar EPM platforms is desirable.
  • Degree-level education and a recognised international accounting or finance qualification.
  • Strong English language skills.


Global Process Owner FP&A

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of continuous improvement initiatives across global FP&A processes.
  • Drive the FP&A transformation journey and transition to the target operating model.
  • Identify process inefficiencies, bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop strategies to optimise workflows and improve process effectiveness.
  • Prioritise change initiatives according to business value and strategic priorities.
  • Develop and implement change management plans.
  • Track implementation progress, risks and outcomes.
  • Coordinate adoption of new processes across FP&A teams.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for process performance and adoption.
  • Provide insights to leadership and manage risks across workstreams.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team.
  • Promote collaboration between FP&A, business and technology teams.
  • Support coaching, training, documentation and knowledge sharing.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise in end-to-end process optimisation.
  • Experience establishing SOPs, control frameworks, RACI models and global process documentation.
  • Proven experience guiding teams through organisational change.
  • Strong understanding of P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and driver-based forecasting.
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL and data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Lean Six Sigma, BPM or operational excellence certification is desirable.
  • Finance qualification such as ACCA or CIMA is desirable.
  • Experience with SAP products, particularly SAP ECC, is desirable.
  • Experience in FP&A or finance consulting is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with EPM tools such as Oracle, OneStream, IBM TM1 or SAP BPC is desirable.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning and organisational skills.
  • Graduate-level education.
  • Strong written and spoken English.

CoE Head of Central Services

Location: Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria

The CoE Head of Central Services will lead a scalable finance support function within the FP&A Centre of Excellence, overseeing financial planning, reporting, business partnering and continuous improvement across global finance operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Central Services finance team.
  • Build strong team capabilities, structures and succession plans.
  • Oversee reporting, variance analysis, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and high-quality financial analysis.
  • Establish service delivery frameworks, SLAs and KPIs.
  • Drive process standardisation, automation and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and governance requirements.
  • Act as a senior liaison between FP&A and key business leaders.
  • Provide expert guidance on financial planning, analysis and decision support.
  • Drive the adoption of digital tools such as Anaplan and Power BI.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Centre of Excellence capabilities.
  • Promote accountability, collaboration and continuous learning within the team.

Requirements:

  • Experience in FP&A, finance shared services or CoE leadership.
  • Proven experience managing senior finance teams, preferably within a global or matrix organisation.
  • Deep understanding of FP&A processes, performance reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior finance leaders.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience with global finance transformation programmes is desirable.
  • Experience with SAP, Anaplan or Hyperion is desirable.
  • CMA, CPA or MBA Finance qualification is desirable.
  • Strong strategic thinking and people leadership abilities.
  • Ability to translate strategy into execution.
  • Strong planning, analytical and presentation skills.
  • Graduate-level education and qualified Chartered Accountant status.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
