Job Description

Africa Hub for Innovation & Development (AHFID) is a mission-driven organisation advancing sustainable development across Africa through strategic innovation, research, and partnerships in public health, governance, and education. They're looking for an Executive Associate in Strategy and Engagement to work directly with the Managing Director across executive support, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination. This is a 6 to 12-month internship designed for early-career postgraduate professionals who want serious, hands-on exposure to how a development organisation operates at the leadership level. Medical doctors are also encouraged to apply alongside candidates from business, policy, law, and social science backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Managing Director's calendar, meetings, and travel arrangements
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, and track action points
  • Draft reports, presentations, briefing notes, and official correspondence
  • Manage incoming communications and prioritise executive matters
  • Maintain confidential records and sensitive organisational information

Strategy & Coordination:

  • Support implementation and monitoring of strategic initiatives
  • Conduct research and prepare briefing materials for high-level engagements
  • Track strategic priorities and ensure follow-up on key deliverables
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities across teams and stakeholders
  • Assist with project planning, documentation, and reporting

Communications & Knowledge Management:

  • Draft internal and external communications on behalf of the Managing Director
  • Develop presentations and executive briefing materials
  • Maintain organised digital filing systems and records
  • Support documentation of institutional knowledge and strategic insights

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, International Relations, Communications, Economics, Social Sciences, Law, or related field
  • Medical Doctors are also encouraged to apply
  • Prior experience in administration, executive support, or project coordination is an advantage
  • Strong interest in leadership, strategy, governance, public policy, or international development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and multitasking abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams is an added advantage
