How to Stay Competitive While Your Industry Is Being Taken Over by AI

As the world evolves AI becomes an instrument used by many industries to reshape their lifestyles. Ai has turned hours of human work into a task of few minutes. This doesn’t make you less valued or wanted. It just means that you need to improve on what makes you valuable.

Change is the inevitable. As AI gets more involved in industry related activities, we as workers need to learn to develop valuable skills. Your goal should be to learn how to develop your current skills with AI and master skills that AI can not replace.

1. Learn how AI is changing your industry

Firstly you need to find out what Ai is doing in your industry. Learn which tasks are becoming automated, roles that are being reshaped and which role still need human involvement.

If you do not prepare efficiently for a future where AI disrupts the work flow then you will never understand where Ai affects your job.

2. Become an AI user, not an AI opponent

Another way to stay in the competition is by becoming comfortable when using AI. Learn how to apply Ai tools that are necessary to your profession.

You don’t have to learn how to be an AI engineer. All you need to do is to learn how to use AI to do your job better and faster.

3. Develop skills AI struggles to replicate

It is good to develop technical skills, but in this case you are trying to find out what AI finds hard to replicate. As AI becomes more useful, human-centered skills become more valuable than automated increase.

Abilities like:

  • Critical thinking
  • Problem-solving
  • Communication
  • Leadership
  • Negotiation
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Creativity
  • Decision-making
  • Collaboration
  • Strategic thinking

An AI can make an attempt to create such a possibility, but an organization will always need humans thoughts on which possibility makes more sense.

4. Move from doing tasks to solving problems

Being the person that only know how to do repetitive tasks makes you vulnerable to automation. Don’t just perform tasks, become the person who can identify a problem and provide a solution.

This makes you more important in a work space. Making meaningful decisions makes it harder to reduce your value.

5. Build expertise in your particular niche

Learning about different things is great but being an expert in a particular field still matters.

Instead of trying to put everything into your head, why not just advance your skills in a particular area. Understanding both AI and a particular industry problem is considered more valuable than just knowing how to use generic AI tools.

6. Keep learning continuously

Don’t stop learning because you graduated or got a job. Learning is a lifelong journey and should never stop. As AI changes, skill that where valuable today will not be valuable tomorrow. Constantly keep learning about new softwares, industry practices, methods, and technologies.

I’m not telling you to constantly gain certificates. I’m saying you should develop skill that you can actually showcase and use.

7. Strengthen your professional reputation

Technology only makes work easier to produce, it does not have a reputation and trust. These are very important traits that AI can not replicate.

You have to create an online presence that speaks for you. Use your CV, LinkedIn profile, portfolio, professional networks, projects, and significant contributions you have made in your field. Let people know you for a particular association or skills.

8. Become adaptable

You have to learn how to blend in with the new style of doing tasks. Playing it safe by trying to find another job that AI will never affect is never going to be the best strategy.

Every industry will face a technological change at one point in time.

What you should be doing is developing skills that still matter when responsibilities change. Learn a new skill, be open to new workflows, and don’t be adamant to use your knowledge in a new area.

Note: It’s better to learn how to combine your strong human judgment, expert knowledge and adaptable skills with AI tools instead of avoid it.
