How Emotional Arcs Boost Click-Through Rates

People don't click on things because they're logical; they click because things make them FEEL. And that feeling is where those clicks all start. When that feeling is good, there is an increased chance of engagement. That feeling is what a marketing team should be looking out for. It may sound easy and obvious, but actually getting it to happen right takes a lot of work, and you need talent from a lot of different areas.

Figuring Feelings Out

So what's an "emotional arc," really? Simply put, imagine the plot of a movie, with the ups and downs. Starting low (like a problem), rising (finding hope), reaching a peak (success!), then maybe falling again a little (a little problem), and then ending high (resolution of everything!). That's called an emotional arc. If you have ever taken literature classes in college, it will sound extremely familiar. Some stories and promotions may give a tragic feeling, which also works.

People also relate to these same arcs with emotions. Think about it; a story where a very low, poor person becomes a king! Of course, many businesses don't think about that; mostly, they think about offering Facebook Promotion, so they reach out to the companies that deal in it; instead, they should focus on building a relationship. People feel that it is important to listen to their problems!

Injecting Feeling Matters

Okay, the trick is: inject these arcs into every piece of content. A tweet, an email, a video description, even in the title! A title that promises an emotional ride (like "From Zero to Hero: My Insane Journey") does way better than "Click here for Stuff." It appeals to people's hopes, fears, their everything. By focusing on people, then click-rates can really go up. Alternatively, some people even buy social media likes to grow and improve interactions.

The most important thing is to make that emotional investment back into the community, and that it is the right kind of investment. This is why more people should spend time on building real connections with real people, rather than building false connections. Remember, it is important to invest back into the community; by doing so, it gives people the right feelings!

Seeing Data Support Emotion

Okay, and real quick, here is some data: videos that share a story, that share a hardship, or celebrate some kind of success get far more shares and likes. It is important to showcase a journey, even a sad or tragic one. It is the most honest! However, it can be pretty hard to do; it calls for emotional vulnerability, the kind of thing people mostly keep to themselves.

Emotionally connect with someone and have great success! Show people how something can solve their problems. Tell people that it makes a change. It turns everything into a journey, and then, at the end of the journey, there are solutions. If the journey can be emotional, it is amazing. If emotions work for the brands, then it brings the revenue up. No matter how long you take, it has the greatest value. Social media has changed the world because emotions are very powerful.

Measuring Your Successes

So, how do you track if your emotional arc worked? Track everything all the time. Pay close attention to "shares", "likes", but most important of all, those valuable, precious, click-throughs. If anything starts to go down, then change something really quickly.

It is important to know that the "Likes" and "Shares" need to come organically; if everyone does that, then it will be totally perfect! Remember, every point needs to be accurate to have proper long-term analysis. Try to make sure every follower matters!

Conclusion

Emotionality is at the heart of every good story, so putting that into your marketing will result in engagement. So, think about the story you want to tell and incorporate the emotional arc throughout all your marketing projects. When it works right, everything will do great, and things will actually grow.
